Laura VAILLANT
Born in Jatibonico, Cuba, she is a visual artist and a graduate of the Oscar Fernandez Morera Academy of Art in Trinidad. Now based in Lyon, she dedicates herself to creating portraits in pencil, graphite, and charcoal, with a constant focus on realism.
Her work goes far beyond simple representation: each face is a story, a suspended moment, a captured emotion. The female figure often takes center stage, portrayed with delicacy and depth.
Through black and white, she invites the viewer into an intimate experience. The absence of color draws the eye back to what truly matters: an expression, a gesture, a presence.
During her exhibitions, art fairs, or competitions, she enjoys inviting the public to discover singular faces — bearers of identity, emotion, and life experience. Each portrait she creates is carefully chosen: it is born from an encounter, an intention, and always seeks to convey a unique emotion.
She places great importance on the viewer’s sensitivity. Her work deliberately leaves space for personal interpretation — for that intimate part of ourselves we project into another’s gaze.
The models she draws are selected with care, then shaped patiently to achieve the most truthful realism possible. Pencil, graphite, and charcoal are her tools of choice to express this pursuit of emotion, truth, and presence.
Through her drawings, she strives to create a world that is both restrained and vibrant — a space where anyone can immerse themselves, get lost, or find recognition. A quiet place, yet filled with emotion.
